Saddington then returned to Richmond and was put in charge of their Under-19s side.〔''The Age'', ("Tigers must hold election" ), 24 November 1971, p. 15〕 He was later coach of the Richmond reserves team.〔''The Age'', ("Col wants seconds flag" ), 22 September 1975, p. 14〕 Saddington coached the reserves side to a premiership in 1973; that same year he was awarded a life membership.
